They sat me at someone's desk and told me the girl had quit, was gone, had vamoosed. After getting the green light, I cleaned it out the first afternoon, getting rid of the cans of Slim Fast in the drawer, the doo-rags, the used pantyhose, broken headsets, etc. Anything that looked important, like tax forms, outgoing mail, things like that, I kept on the desk. Now it's two days later and there's some woman looking for her stuff...
I don't think I'm going to volunteer the information that I scrapped a lot of stuff. Besides, there are a couple things she's ranting to her supervisor about that I don't remember seeing at all. And I really want to keep her stapler. It's a red Swingline, those are hard to find nowadays.
I'm just keeping my head down. This probably makes me a bad person. But I don't want to get involved in work drama, and besides, it's too late to do anything about it now. So I'm going to let the higher-ups deal with their mistake. I'm not taking the fallout.
EDIT: She keeps circling the desk like a predator, glaring as she goes by as if she suspects me of secretly hiding her phone numbers and steno pad covered in doodles and other people's song lyrics. She's making everyone nervous, even me. It doesn't help that she is twice my size and I'm a big girl. I've been apologetic and sincere, but honestly, if she doesn't quit with the shark circling I will descend into bear tactics. I don't want to fight, and I'm sorry for invading your territory, but I'm here now and it's time for you to move along and find a new cave.
